Review: Speakeasy

Speakeasy Speakeasy by Sarina Bowen
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

What I love most about this book is that Sarina Bowen doesn't do what you expect. It is very rare to read a story where the heroine is an addict. I think it is even more rare to read a story about an addict who cleaned up their act and addressed their addiction before hitting rock bottom, hurting someone or hurting themselves. That is exactly what she does in this book and it is beautiful. May, having just had her heart broken by her girlfriend, finds herself attracted to Alec, a family friend and someone she has known her whole life. She didn't think a man was in her plans, even though she identifies as Bisexual. Another thing that Sarina Bowen didn't do, was make a big deal about Alec having a difficult time being the man following a woman in May's life. This left the story with so much more time for plot and substance and heart stopping romance. I absolutely adore these two and their partnership.
