Review: After All

After All After All by Kristen Proby
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
Carter and Nora are the kind of couple that warm your heart and give you goosebumps all at the same time. Having read the first two books in the series, these characters were not new to me, and their connection was apparent to the reader. They came together in this book in a way that was inevitable. That being said the story was not predictable or brief. You get to know them each and their baggage and see them navigate their changing relationship. One of my favorite parts of this book was the girl time Nora spent with London and Sienna. I have said it before, but Kristen Proby has a way of creating a girl tribe that you want to be a part of, all of her series has it and this one is no different. This was an emotional and gripping story and I highly recommend.

I received an ARC of this book and voluntarily give my review.

Review: House of Scarlett

House of Scarlett House of Scarlett by Meghan March
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Now we are getting somewhere! The first book left me wanting, I wasn’t as engaged by it as I wanted to be. I did not have that problem with this book. I loved getting so much more backstory from Legend and watching him and Scarlett really get to know each other. Great narration addictive book.

Excerpt

“How good are you at keeping secrets, Lenora Astalis?” His voice wrapped around my neck like a noose.  I wanted to cough. I needed to cough. He terrified me. I hated him with the heat and passion of a thousand blazing suns. He made me feel like a scaredy cat and a snitch.  “Oh, yes. If you’re coward enough to pretend you’re asleep, you’re good enough to keep a secret. That’s the thing about you, Astalis. I can smash you into dust and watch your grains dance at my feet. My little circus monkey.”  I might’ve hated Vaughn, but I hated myself more for not standing up to him. For not opening my eyes and spitting in his face. Clawing his unnaturally blue eyes out. Taunting him back for all the times he’d taunted all of us at Carlisle Prep. “By the way, your eyelids are moving,” he said drily, chuckling.  He straightened up, his finger making a brief stop at the base of my spine. He snapped his fingers, making a breaking sound, and I nearly jumped out of my skin, letting out a gasp. I squeezed my eyes tighter, still pretending to sleep. He laughed.  The bastard laughed.  Was he sparing me for the time being? Was he going to check in on me from now on? Retaliate if I opened my mouth? He was so unpredictable. I wasn’t sure what my life would look like in the morning.   LJ Shen prof picAbout LJ Shen L.J. The Rich Boy - SP banner

The Rich Boy, an all-new sensational slow burn romance standalone from New York Times bestselling author Kylie Scott is releasing March 9th, and we have the first sneak peek!

TheRichBoy EBOOK

Sneak Peek

“All of Me” by Billie Holliday comes on and we neither stop nor speak. We just keep moving to the music. My hands creep up to the back of his neck where his skin is bare and warm to the touch. His eyes are the most amazing shade of hazel. Like some lovesick fool I could stare into them for hours. I don’t think I’ve slow danced with someone since high school. Don’t get me wrong, there have been memorable times in my adult life. I’ve been given roses and taken to dimly lit restaurants. But being here with him is quickly becoming peak romance. Next is “Lover” by Taylor Swift and we dance on. He doesn’t try to kiss me so I don’t make a move either. There’s no need for more just yet. Doing this, being this close, is beautiful. I want about a hundred more moments like this with him. Possibly a great deal more. When the music stops we gradually still. And there’s this moment when it’s just me and him and the city around us seems perfectly silent. How good it is to simply be in his arms and to have the full focus of his attentions. To know that maybe, just maybe, I’m safe here with him. The chambers of my heart fill up with him, one by one, and it’s both wonderful and terrifying. “That was nice,” he says in a low voice. “Yes, it was.” He looks down, taking in the way our bodies are pressed together. “Baby Jesus would be appalled.” “I do so hate disappointing infant gods.” “You know, fifty years from now we’re going to look back on tonight and you’re going to regret not taking the opportunity to feel me up,” he says. “Just going for it and grabbing my junk like you own it.” “Oh my God, Beck.” I laugh. “That was such a perfect romantic moment and you just killed it.” “I did?” “Dead and buried.” He scratches at his head. “Well, shit. I was only being honest.” “Of course you were.” With a smile, he takes a step back. I miss him immediately. The heat and the feel of him. The warm and familiar scent of his body. Maybe I should have taken him home last night. Though this slower pace has a sweetness and heat I can’t help but enjoy. Despite the crazy things that come out of his mouth and the insane cravings he inspires in me just by existing. Damn the man. “So,” he says. I break out in gooseflesh from the way he looks at me. As if not only am I the only woman in the room (which I am), but quite possibly on the whole damn planet. As I’ve mentioned before, his attention is addictive. “How about I get the mopping done and then take you on a second date to the diner?” he asks. “See if I can’t bring the romance back to our burgeoning long-term relationship.” “A second date, huh?” “It’s a big step, I know. But I think we’re ready. What do you think?” I nod, my stomach turning upside down. “Let’s do it.”

Synopsis

I’m the type of girl who’s given up on fairy tales. So when Beck – the hot new busboy at work – starts flirting with me, I know better than to get my hopes up. Happily ever afters aren’t for the average. I learned that the hard way.

But how can I be expected to resist a man who can quote Austen, loves making me laugh, and seems to be everything hot and good in this world?

Only there’s so much more to him than that.

Billionaire playboy? Check.

Troubled soul? Check.

The owner of my heart, the man I’ve moved halfway across the country to be with, who’s laying the world at my feet in order to convince me to never leave? Check. Check. Check.

But nobody does complicated like the one percent.

This is not your everyday rags-to-riches, knight-in-shining armor whisking the poor girl off her feet kind of story. No, this is much messier.

Review: Irresistible

Irresistible Irresistible by Jenna Hartley
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This book was so delicious! Lauren is strong, independent, emotionally stunted, and unashamed about her sexuality. Hunter is wealthy playboy. Neither wants a relationship both want sex with no commitment the seem like male and female versions of the same person. What is great is the banter between these too. The sexual tension is thick, but there is also a lightheartedness that helps them develop a deep friendship that is really beautiful. They see each other in a way no one has before, or maybe they have never let someone else in enough to see them that way.

The only struggle I had with this book was knowing where in the timeline the beginning of this book fell in comparison to Unexpected (Love in LA, #1). Once I figured it out about 3 chapters in (there was a reference to Alexis and Preston's storyline) it was smooth sailing.

This was a great book and one I could see myself rereading in the future. One of my pet peeves is when the plot circles around drama that is created because there is a lack of communication or characters make dumb decisions. While there are some communication breakdowns between Lauren and Hunter, I felt their actions and responses were authentic and never felt frustration over the actions they took. I highly recommend this book. It can be read as a standalone, but i recommend reading as a series if you have not already done so.

Review: F Buddy

F Buddy F Buddy by Summer Cooper
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

This is my first time reading a book by Summer Cooper, and my first book narrated by Victoria Wei. I enjoyed this book it was a relatively short friends with benefits relationship, with a secret baby twist. The vocal narration was good, Victoria Wei does a distinct male voice. However since it was a dual perspective book, i had a difficult time getting into the chapters from Zach's point of view. The book was a little slow to get into, but i was hooked by the end and anxiously binged the last hour.

Review: Bullseye

Bullseye Bullseye by Monica James
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Monica James was not kidding when she said this book is dark. It is raw and gritty, violent and bold and an amazing story. This book does not shy away from language, events or topics that would be considered inappropriate or taboo. Before the first chapter a blanket trigger warning is issued. I am a person who has a difficult time with violence in films and television media, but can handle it much better in book form. While scenes in this book were difficult to read they were not without purpose.

Bull is ex-con who has one mission in his life. He has lived a terrible and tragic life and is focused on vengeance and revenge. Developmentally and psychologically he is stunted by the tragedy of his past and he is an extremely interesting character. Tiger is beautifully broken by the circumstances of her life and trying to keep it all together. Her collision with Bull is the think dark romantic dreams are made of.

I predicted some of the twists at the very end, but the last chapter of the book had me on edge and April cannot get here fast enough!

Review: Rise: The Interlude

Rise: The Interlude Rise: The Interlude by L.A. Cotton
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Rockstar romances are one of my favorite tropes and this one hit all the right notes! I could not wait to get my hands on this book!! I listened to the audio of book 1, and read an e-book of Rise (Book 2). I missed hearing the music, since in the e-book form it reads more like poetry, and I will probably listen to the audio when it releases for the experience . This story builds on the characters in Rush and it is everything I hoped it would be, Book 3 can't get here quick enough. I loved learning more about Evangeline, Rafe and Levi and the Black hearts still bleed band interactions. Now that I know more of the backstory I am anxious to see all the drama unfold. The cliffhanger's always kill me!!

Review: Now Open Your Eyes

Now Open Your Eyes Now Open Your Eyes by Nicole Fiorina
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I am having a difficult time putting my thoughts together for this review, so I have decided to just stream of consciousness write out my thoughts. I struggled a bit with this book, and I think that is because I didn't want the series to end, I was highly invested in the characters and I desperately wanted them to get their HEA. That being said, I found myself angry with the characters, disappointed with their choices and wanting to shake them throughout the book. I saw a lot of growth in Mia and Ollie, but they also both did things that resulted in me not liking them very much at different times in the book.

When I first finished this book I gave it 3 stars, but as it has sat with me, I do feel 4 stars is more appropriate. While I didn't like or approve of their choices, Nicole Fiorina gave us the perfect conclusion for Ollie and Mia. They are imperfect perfection, and just like real people they are flawed, make bad decisions and sometimes get it wrong. What is beautiful about them is they pick themselves back up and move forward together. This trilogy is and emotional rollercoaster and the conclusion ties everything up perfectly.

I received an arc of this book and voluntarily give my review.

Review: Entice

Entice Entice by Ava Harrison
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

I was drawn to this book by the narrator and trope (Age gap romance, father's best friend). This story lagged a little for me. It felt like a slow burn and we were never going to get to the meat of the story (pun intended). Once the characters started exploring their feelings and relationship the story picked up and I really enjoyed the second half of this book.

Review: Hot Daddy Sauce

Hot Daddy Sauce Hot Daddy Sauce by Angel Devlin
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

Loved the duet narration of this story! The performances by Rachel Woods and Patrick James brought so much depth to the story. This single dad age gap romance was sweet and sultry and with British accents... really what more could your ears want. This book felt like a novella, and had lots of interesting characters who I hope get their own books. I give this book 3.5 stars, and definitely recommend

It's basically my mantra. So when I meet a woman who demands nothing more of me than those three things, it sounds like the perfect arrangement.

Excerpt

“Hey!” she shouted as I swallowed the shot.

I reached for the second one, but she was faster. She swiped it from the counter and downed it before I could. She took it like a champ, slamming the glass on the counter.

Just as I’d remembered—competitive. Another tick in her box.

“What’s next—body shots?” I teased, though I would gladly take any excuse to lick her skin.

She narrowed her eyes at me. “Are you in college?”

It took me a moment to realize she was serious. I threw back my head and laughed before leaning in to whisper in her ear. “No, but we can pretend I am if that turns you on.”

She pushed against my chest, though I didn’t budge. Instead, I grabbed her hand, clasping it in mine. I stared at her for a split second, the air between us swirling with tension. Everything and everyone else faded away, and all I could see was her.

It was the oddest sensation, and I would’ve blamed it on the alcohol but I’d barely consumed any. Somehow, though, it felt like we were the only two people in the club.

Her rich eyes blinked up at me, framed with long, dark lashes. She was just as stunning as I’d remembered, if not more so. And her peach-colored dress was going to drive me over the edge or land me in jail.

The smooth material clung to her curves like I wanted to. It wrapped around her hips, showing off her narrow waist before encasing those gorgeous tits. And in some lights, it had the effect of an optical illusion—making it easy to imagine that she was naked. It also gave me the irrational urge to gouge out the eyes of every man who dared look at her.

I was done playing games.

I liked winning, and I was used to getting what I wanted, when I wanted it.

And I wanted this woman.

So, without another word, I tugged her behind me across the crowded floor. Once we were in the darkened hallway, I backed her against the wall, my hands bracketing her face. I couldn’t wait to sample those pouty lips—full and luscious, just like her hips and breasts.

Christ, she’s gorgeous.

I skimmed my hands up her sides, resting just below her rib cage. I could feel the rapid rise and fall of her chest, pushing her full breasts that much closer to my mouth. It didn’t take a stethoscope to know her heart was racing. My own was beating against my ribs, making me feel as if I’d run a marathon.

“Are you just going to stand there, Target Guy? Or are you going to kiss me?”

A deep chuckle rumbled through me.

Fuck me. I’d forgotten how assertive she was. How her eyes sparkled with challenge and mirth. How her words were as delicious as the lips delivering them.

Would she taste as good as I’d hoped?

“You really need to stop calling me ‘Target Guy.’ I do have a name.” A name that typically came loaded with expectations. But right now, I didn’t care because I wanted to hear my name on her lips more than I wanted to conceal my identity.

“And I’m sure it’s a lovely name.” She swayed a little on her heels, and I wondered how much alcohol she’d consumed.

I tightened my grip on her hips, wishing there was only bare skin beneath my fingers. My cock hardened even more if that were possible, and I was positive she felt it digging into her belly. There was no way she could miss it—aimed directly at her like a heat-seeking missile homed in on its target.

“No names.” Her expression was so stern, it almost made me laugh. “It’s so much more fun. Don’t you think?” She trailed a red-stained fingernail over the buttons of my shirt. “I like a little mystery.”

I chuckled, thinking this woman might damn well be perfect. Fucking gorgeous. A firebrand. And completely uninterested in entanglements. It was like staring at the female version of myself.

Review: Doughn't Let Me Go

Doughn't Let Me Go Doughn't Let Me Go by Teagan Hunter
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Teagan Hunter has become a go to author for me for stories that are punny and heartfelt. There is a lightness and a depth in her books that make them easy to read and sad to finish, because you just never want to say goodbye. Dori and Porter are no different. If I wasn't already a sucker for a single parent trope, his anti-stereotype hot billionaire who doesn't sleep around persona would have done me in for sure. This book has some major twists and surprises, which Teagan Hunter could have turned into rabbit holes that lead away from the main plot. This did not happen however, and the end result is a captivating story about finding your place and learning how to accept the love you deserve.

I received an ARC of this book and voluntarily give my review.

Review: Everyday History

Everyday History Everyday History by Alice Archer
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This book really surprised me. I don't think the description does it justice. The story was very emotional and full of messages of self discovery and self worth. There were parts of the book I found confusing initially, periods of time that were quickly glossed over or rushed through. I found myself going back and rereading the last page thinking I missed something. It was intentional however, as the information was shared in "flashback" later in the book. This is a romance where the couple spends more time in the book apart than together and the emotion and passion leaps from the page.
