Review: Gifting Me To His Best Friend

Gifting Me To His Best Friend Gifting Me To His Best Friend by Katee Robert
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

3.5 Stars!! This book was HOT. That is a given, the touch of taboo series is on fire so far! Emma, Derek and Grayson have amazing chemistry, and a deep deep history. Katee Robert does not shy away from the taboo or I struggled a bit with the impulsive choices they made and only listening to their libidos but not thinking things through. I found myself getting frustrated knowing that decisions were going to blow up in their faces, especially because they avoided them instead of addressing them head on. That being said, i devoured this book, I could not put it down and read it in 1 day, because I clearly have no chill when it comes to Katee Robert’s writing.

I received an ARC of this book and voluntarily give my review.

Make Me Hate You by Kandi Steiner Release Blitz

"This is a return to the Kandi Steiner of 2016 who brought us Weightless and A Love Letter to Whiskey. Prepare for the burn." -- Author Sarah E. Green

Make Me Hate You, an angsty, emotional stand-alone romance from bestselling author, Kandi Steiner,is LIVE!

If he kisses me right now, I’ll drown.

Every sip of air is shallow and burning, because in the arms of my best friend’s brother, I’m the closest I’ve ever been to sin.

His eyes flick to my lips, and I remember the first time I tasted him, seven years ago before I left this town and vowed never to return. His hands grip my waist, and I remember the pain when he rejected me, when my entire world crashed down at his command. His jaw clenches, and my senses come alive with one stinging reminder.

I’m not his to kiss, and he’s not mine.

I tried to stay away from Tyler Wagner, putting an entire country between us. But when his sister’s wedding brings us back to the same town, to the same house, I can’t avoid him, no matter how hard I try.

He’s always there, his dark eyes bewitching, luring me into their depths. The memory of us pulls me under like a rip current, and when he flashes that smile, I lose my breath, along with my will, unable to escape his grip and find the surface.

Now, hours before our plus ones arrive for the wedding, I’m in his arms, begging him to make me hate him, knowing he never could.

If he kisses me right now, I’ll drown.

And I’ll take him down with me.

Make Me Hate You is a best friend's brother romance that will have you on the edge of your seat from start to finish.

Excerpt:

Seven miles and an hour later, and all the anxiety I’d felt the night before was completely gone.

At least, until I rounded the foyer into the kitchen and saw I wasn’t the only one up early on Sunday morning.

Tyler sat at the kitchen island, still in his navy blue sweat pants and simple white t-shirt, with one foot planted on the ground and the other hooked casually on the lower bar of his stool. His hair was an absolute disaster, the boyish waves sticking up this way and that. He had both hands wrapped around a mug of hot tea, his eyes focused on the iPad he had propped up in front of him, and BlueTooth headphones in his ears.

At first, he didn’t notice me, and I slowed my steps, standing silently at the entry of the kitchen and watching him. I’d done everything I could last night to avoid his gaze, to not look at him, and now that I had a stolen moment to observe, I found my chest tightening again, my mouth dry and sticky.

His brown eyes were hidden beneath bent brows, expression serious as he watched whatever was on the screen. Small lines creased the edges of his eyes — lines that weren’t there when we were kids. He’d grown into a man somehow, overnight, it seemed. Then again, it had been years.

I’d seen him on social media, watched from afar as his YouTube channel took off. I’d seen pictures of him on Instagram — traveling through Europe, hiking in Australia, swimming in hot pools in Iceland. I didn’t follow him, of course, but his profile was public, which allowed me to flip through picture after picture on the nights when I was a pathetic mess.

But, pictures and videos didn’t do justice to the actual man who sat studiously at that kitchen island.

He was something between the boy I used to love and the man I’d never know, familiar and unreachable all at once.

Tyler shook his head at something, letting out a frustrated sigh and kicking back the bar stool a little before taking a sip of his tea. His eyes flicked to me then, back to the screen, and then, he did a double take, this time fixing his gaze on me and leaving it there.

Something changed in his eyes when he looked at me, like a shadow passed over them and held him captive. I was dressed in jogger shorts and a modest tank top, but from the way he watched me, I might as well have been completely naked.

That’s what his gaze did to me, what it always had done.

It stripped me bare.

About Kandi:

Kandi Steiner is a bestselling author and whiskey connoisseur living in Tampa, FL. Best known for writing “emotional roller-coaster” stories, she loves bringing flawed characters to life and writing about real, raw romance — in all its forms. No two Kandi Steiner books are the same, and if you’re a lover of angsty, emotional, and inspirational reads, she’s your gal. An alumna of the University of Central Florida, Kandi graduated with a double major in Creative Writing and Advertising/PR with a minor in Women’s Studies. She started writing back in the 4th grade after reading the first Harry Potter installment. In 6th grade, she wrote and edited her own newspaper and distributed it to her classmates. Eventually, the principal caught on and the newspaper was quickly halted, though Kandi tried fighting for her “freedom of press.” She took particular interest in writing romance after college, as she has always been a die-hard hopeless romantic, and likes to highlight all the challenges of love as well as the triumphs. When Kandi isn’t writing, you can find her reading books of all kinds, talking with her extremely vocal cat, and spending time with her friends and family. She enjoys live music, traveling, anything heavy in carbs, beach days, movie marathons, craft beer, and sweet wine — not necessarily in that order.

Review: Make Me Hate You

Make Me Hate You Make Me Hate You by Kandi Steiner
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This book is so angsty and so yearny Gah! Seriously I could not sleep or put it down once I started. Jasmine and Tyler are on a slow motion collision course. I simultaneously wanted them to speed up and slow down. I found it so delicious watching them interact with each other. Knowing that they both wanted each other but neither was acting on it. Both of them struggled with their own feelings and were terrible at communicating with each other. Bad decisions were made which might be a deal breaker for some readers, but I think that Kandi Steiner did a good job navigating a treacherous topic.

The end of the book came too quickly, I would love some bonus material of Jasmine and the Wagner's interacting after Morgan returns from her honeymoon. The extended family dynamic was a lot of fun. I want to spend more time living in the love. They are such a fated couple and I just love the drama that comes with that.

I received an ARC of this book and voluntarily give my review.

Review: Flirtasaurus

Flirtasaurus Flirtasaurus by Erin Mallon
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

What an amazing debut by author Erin Mallon! Flirtasaurus is hilarious, entertaining and romantic. The story is full of quick banter, science jokes and puns, unforgettable characters and completely unputdownable.

Calliope is focused and determined to excel as a paleontologist her dream since she was a little girl. She is single minded in her drive to succeed, which creates just as many blunders as it does opportunities. She is a very realistic character in that she is not a perfect human. She is flawed, she makes mistakes and she frequently responds inappropriately to situations. I was able to relate to her so much!

In regards to our hero Ralph, He is so good to Calliope from the very beginning, bantering with her, pushing buttons, and pulling her out of herself. He is so dreamy and the hero all us awkward boss babes want in our corner.

Possibly my favorite characters of the whole book are Calliope's parents. I was cracking up laughing (my family was looking at me like a crazy person I was laughing so hard).

As a result of listening to dozens of books narrated by Erin Mallon I could hear her voice in my head while reading this book. I think this will translate wonderfully to audio, and I plan on listening to the audiobook in the future. One thing that was a little challenging with this read, was that some of the back and forth dialogue went so quickly without character descriptors or pronouns that I lost track of who was speaking and had to go back to follow the banter again. I don't foresee that being an issue with narration and truth be told it was only a minor hiccup in the reading. It did not impact my enjoyment of the book at all.

Flirtasaurus by Erin Mallon is the funniest book I have read in a long time. I have a feeling everyone is going to love it as much as I did.

I received an ARC of this book and voluntarily give my review.

Excerpt

“Beers on me later,” Elias muttered, keeping his attention on the cards. “You can ask me whatever you want…” He trailed off, that scrape between his shoulder blades growing more pronounced, until he couldn’t concentrate enough to decipher the suits of his cards. What the hell was going on? Throat dry, he laid down his hand and turned in his chair— Silence fell around him when he saw her. She was golden. Radiant. Miserable. The long-legged blonde limped through the casino with a beautiful pout on her face, a pair of high heels shoved under one arm. There was a fine sheen of dew on her incredible face, telling Elias she’d just escaped the stifling Vegas heat. Simply by existing, she commanded fealty and the casino seemed to part around her like the Red Sea, creating a path for her to complete a wobbly strut toward Elias’s poker table—and the closer she came, the more his lungs compressed, as if he was running out of fucking oxygen. Who is she? No idea. But the discomfort between his shoulder blades was gone. Like a balm had been applied. The girl was beyond gorgeous. He’d never noticed cheekbones on anyone in his life, but he noticed her high ones. The indigo blue of her eyes. And Jesus, he definitely noticed the way her soft mutterings made his heart flop over. Who are you? Vaguely, he heard Latte ribbing him. “Bet you’d call her back, huh, Silent E?” “Forget what I said about him being mysterious,” Kenny quipped. “Everything he’s thinking is right there on his face.” More laughter. But the buzzing in his skull was already drowning them out. Elias watched the blonde’s high heel fall out of her arms and flop sideways on the casino floor. He was on his feet before it stopped moving, abandoning his hand at the table without a thought so he could scoop up the shoe and follow. He didn’t have a choice in the matter. Going after her was a requirement, searing him, compelling him. And a moment later, when she looked up at him from her seat at a slot machine, his world righted itself with a grinding snap. He hadn’t even known it was off kilter. The blonde crossed her impossibly sexy legs and his body reacted swiftly, hardening. “Well?” she said in a husky Russian accent. “Make it good. I only have five minutes before I wreak the havoc.”

Release Blitz: Carried Away

Carried Away, a brand new standalone contemporary romance by P. Dangelico, is coming June 16, 2020!

Carrie Anderson––truth seeker, storyteller, journalist-at-large––is bad at social media and great at getting herself into trouble.

It’s temporary after all. She can work at her family’s bed and breakfast, fix her finances, and get back to her life and home in Los Angeles.

There’s only one not-so-little problem…the grouchy ex-NHL star making her rethink what home means.

Jake Turner––great at hockey, bad at people––is not a happy man.

Haunted by his past, all he wants is to disappear into obscurity, to get away from the scrutiny of the press he’s been under since going pro at nineteen. But when the press finds him, disappearing is no longer an option.

Worse yet, the same journalist he’s trying to avoid is making him reconsider whether being forgotten is what he really wants.

About P. Dangelico:

P. Dangelico loves romance in all forms, cuddly creatures (four legged and two), really bloody sexy pulp, the NY Jets (although she’s reconsidering after this season), and to while away the day at the barn (apparently she does her best thinking shoveling horse crap). What she’s not enamored with is referring to herself in the third person and social media so don’t expect her to get on Twitter anytime soon. Oh, and although she was born in Italy, she’s been Jersey Strong since she turned six.

Review: This Time Tomorrow

This Time Tomorrow This Time Tomorrow by Tessa Bailey
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This book left me with such a hangover. First things first, that cover! OMG Gorgeous!! seriously seriously stunning!

From the start of this book I was hooked. Elias and Roksana are magnetic. They are destined, fated, drawn to each other and the connection they have had me pining and turning pages as fast as my eyes would read. This book is total catnip for me! Elias is devoted, demanding, growly, broody but utterly obsessed with Roksana. While she is feisty, strong, sensitive, and protective. The combination is literally combustable. The book is also action packed with a villain you want to expose and hate. Oh it is all the things I love about a story you can really sink your teeth into.

What Tessa Bailey created with this series could span dozens of books. This world is complex has a variety of paranormal beings and some really cool rules. Theres a set up for a larger theme, some wonderful world building!

I realized something about myself when reading this book- I am a sucker for PNR fated mates. This book gave me that feeling I only get when reading my all time favorites, and what i realize is those books are 100% romance but also have this PNR/Fantasy spin: A discovery of witches, A court of thorns and roses, The Sookie Stackhouse books. Book 1 gave me major Twilight vibes and this had some of that as well. I read another review that referenced Buffy and Angel which I can also see. This Time Tomorrow is its own unique story with creatures and villains some of the best Tessa Bailey dirty talk I've ever read.

I received an ARC of this book and voluntarily give my review.

Review: Carried Away

Carried Away Carried Away by P. Dangelico
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

Carrie's life is going to H-E double hockey sticks in a hand basket and she ends up back home in a town she had no desire to return to, Lake Placid New York. Jake Turner, is hiding in Lake Placid and find Carrie.

There were many things I loved about this book.

Carrie addresses her insecurities with her awkward teenage years and acne and her struggle with self esteem. I loved that this was a part of the book. So often romance novels are about the girl who never felt pretty but was beautiful the whole time. But many women experience growing into their beauty and self esteem, trying to shed the bullying and baggage we carry around from middle school and high school.

Carrie goes through some amazing self discovery in figuring out what she wants out of her life and that was beautiful to read. Her Grandmother was a firecracker, and I loved all of her snark!

Lots of witty banter and smart dialogue.

Jake was broody and mysterious. The story is told from Carrie's POV, so we only see broody Jake we don't get any inner monologue. I love a broody hero, but Jake was almost bully-ish. This started out as an enemies to lovers, because of all the bickering and shade Jake threw her way, but I am not sure it actually was enemies to lovers. I wanted it to either get more argumentative and have more bickering banter or not have any. It just felt like they didn't fully commit to their emotions when they started out as "enemies".

I felt similarly with the storyline that involved Zelda, I really wanted to see more from Carrie in addressing the pain she was carrying from her relationship with her mother. Towards the end of the book there was a lot of twists and turns involving her family that I really wanted more time unpacking. It seemed like these big plot lines were introduces and then brushed aside.

There was also one sentence near the end of the book which used to COVID as part of a smilie. At no other point in the book was COVID or Corona Virus mentioned so this seemed incongruous with the plot. I read this book as if it existed in a pre-COVID world. COVID was never mentioned before the last chapter and neither was any social distancing or PPE. It's really not a big deal, just interrupted my reading flow, I reread the paragraph several times to make sure I was following the storyline correctly.

Overall I really enjoyed reading this book, the characters were engaging and and enjoyable. They were just the right amount of damaged that makes me want to fix them. I read Waaay past my bedtime because I couldn't put the book down. I hope there are more books with the supporting characters, because I definitely think there are more stories to tell

I received an ARC of this book and voluntarily give my review.

Review: Cheesy on the Eyes

Cheesy on the Eyes Cheesy on the Eyes by Teagan Hunter
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

The 5th book in the slice series is everything!! This friends to lovers fake relationship story ticked all the boxes!! I knew I was going to love Sully from the snippets we got from him in the previous books in the series. What I wasn’t prepared for was his intuitiveness and witty banter. He was sweet and snarky and devoted and watching him get to know his girl was so fun I never wanted it to end. Thea was a mess of contradictions and the most unapologetically unique character I think I have ever read. She was exactly herself and didn’t make excuses or try to change herself for Sully. Fake relationship stories can sometimes be hit or miss for me, I get frustrated when the characters work against themselves. In the case of Cheesy on the Eyes, this book was a complete hit and might be my favorite book of this whole series, I was so sad for it to end.

Meet Teagan Hunter

I'm a Missouri-raised gal, but currently live in North Carolina with my US Marine husband and 9-year-old dog. I spend my days begging him for a cat, and I survive off coffee, pizza, and sarcasm. When I'm not writing, you can find me binge-watching various TV shows, especially Supernatural and One Tree Hill. I like cold weather, buy more paperbacks than I'll ever read, and I never say no to brownies.

Writing is my passion, and this is just the beginning of my journey.
