Review: Waylaid

Waylaid Waylaid by Sarina Bowen
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

From the first words out of Zachary Webber's mouth introducing Waylaid at the start of this audiobook I knew that Rickie would destroy me, and I was right. Rickie and Daphne are the best kind of complicated. They have a history that needs to be uncovered and a mystery that keeps you guessing throughout the book. I love being back on Shipley farms and watching Daphne and Rickie dance around each other, drifting in and out of each others orbit. This story is more than your typical second chance romance or new adult story. Watching Daphne and Rickie fall in love is like watching destiny happen and it is magnificent.

Sarina Bowen addresses some important and difficult mental health issues and experiences that are common among young people but rarely discussed. I love when difficult topics are addressed well in books and in this one therapy is normalized and it is very refreshing to see.

This book has mystery, suspense, drama, emotion, love, and a lot of familiar faces. We even get to see how some of our old favorites are moving forward in their lives. Dylan and Chastity and Griffin and Audrey play prominent roles, as to Mrs. Shipley and Grandpa. Grandpa brings the comic relief and I adored it.

This audiobook is one of my all time favorite performances by Zachary Webber. He brings emotion, depth and heart to Rickie and no one else could have embodied him like Zachary Webber does. This might sound odd, but I feel like I can hear that he is enjoying voicing this character (maybe i'm crazy) but he's just has a little more chutzpa or something. Callie Dalton voices Daphne and does an excellent job, the tow together are a great pair.

I received an ALC of this book and voluntarily give my honest review.
