Review: Shadows

Shadows Shadows by Kristen Proby
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Kristen Proby's first fully paranormal book was extremely addicting and had me on the edge of my seat. While she is known for her engaging romances, this book is a dark and suspenseful story, reminiscent of Practical Magic and The Witches of Eastwick. It still has the romance, but it's not the plot of the story as much as a strong supporting storyline. The villain, a serial killer, is a true villain, he is creepy and psychotic and you want to know more about him while also wanting to read through your fingers. The heroines (because while this story is about Brielle, her sisters are prominent) are complex and interesting and have that quality that all of Kristen Proby's leading ladies have. You know the one I'm talking about, where you want to go out to drink with them and just be their friends. We also got to visit with some of our favorite characters from the Boudreaux series, which is always enjoyable as a reader, to get to see where familiar characters are now. Overall I am excited for this initial book in the Bayou Magic series. I think Kristen Proby has set up a fascinating new series that is going to keep readers on their toes. Review: My Best Friend’s Royal Wedding

My Best Friend’s Royal Wedding My Best Friend’s Royal Wedding by Romy Sommer
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This story is sweet and funny and everything you expect from a rags to riches royal story. Khara, agirl from the trailer park in Las Vegas meets Adam, the entitled potential heir to a small country. She is strong, independent and feisty. He is wealthy, bored and used to getting his way. She is a surprise to him because she doesn't fall all over his feet. While this might sound cliche, My Best Friend's Royal wedding was heartfelt and addicting from start to finish. My one complaint was that this seems to follow a trilogy by Romy Sommer about the romance of the friend Phoenix & Max who are getting married. This wasn't stated in the description or in the goodreads (including it as part of the collection). I looked it up after multiple references to the long story about the couple's courtship. This book is a complete stand alone, and the previous series was not required reading to enjoy this story.

Review: The Husband Checklist

The Husband Checklist The Husband Checklist by Jasmin Miller
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This story gives you everything you want from a brother's best friend, friends to lovers story. The chemistry between Julia and Carter was tangible from their first scene and it was so satisfying to watch their relationship unfold. Having read a few of her books, I have come to expect for Jasmin Miller to write characters who are lovable, and true to themselves. Every decision they make throughout the story is authentic to the characters she has developed. Julia is a true heroine, strong and soft at the same time, and Carter is confident and insecure and all sorts of book boyfriend material. I could not put this book down, my anxiety levels from their chemistry and tension radiated through my whole body while reading. As a SoCal girl, I love that she uses the area as the setting for her story, with some familiar landmarks that definitely bring out the happy in me. Overall this is a perfect read! I truly loved every word. I received an arc of this book and voluntarily give my review.

Review: Trouble at Brayshaw High

Trouble at Brayshaw High Trouble at Brayshaw High by Meagan Brandy
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This book kicked everything up a notch! No lie, i was worried that it would be difficult to follow that amazingness that was book 1, but Trouble at Brayshaw High was incredible. All the drama, intrigue, violence, but none of the whiney indecision or poor decision making that drives me nuts with books with this many secrets. The character and plot development has me hooked. Reign of Brayshaw better his audio soon, I can't wait!

Review: Boys of Brayshaw High

Boys of Brayshaw High Boys of Brayshaw High by Meagan Brandy
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I can't believe i waited to read this one, a friend talked me into this one and i have 0 regrets! Not what you’d expect! Raven is strong and feisty and they boys you expect to be predictable are deep and layered. Leaves you with a cliffhanger! I’m off to devour book 2. This is a binge read, you just can't put it down!

Review: Unexpected Love

Unexpected Love Unexpected Love by J.O. Mantel
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

I received an ARC of this book and voluntarily give my review. This is my first book by this author. I became quickly invested in our hero Hunter and his journey through love, loss and healing, but there were some parts of this book that were challenging for me. I received an unedited ARC, so many of the barriers I encountered while reading will not be in the final version. My biggest challenges with this book were inconsistencies with timeline, and changes in narrator POV. The POV would change mid paragraph and I would need to go back to figure out who was thinking or talking. That being said, I loved the plot and wish we got more of this story. I hope we don't need to wait too long for the next book in this series.

Review: Deuces Wild

Deuces Wild Deuces Wild by Ella Goode
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I adored this story. I loved watching Mallory push all of Carter's buttons and who can resist when a cranky growly hero goes all in with a girl. This book seemed slightly longer than others of Ella Goode that I have read, and I felt like the reader got more time to spend with the characters and watch their love story unfold. I definitely recommend this book.

Review: Closer

Closer Closer by Kylie Scott
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

To say I was excited to receive an arc of this book would be an understatement. I am a huge fan of Kylie Scott in general, but I especially love the Stage Dive series. I was curious about how this book would go since the characters are definitely on the outskirts of the Stage Dive family . I am happy to report that this book was nothing less than phenomenal. Mae Cooper is a strong feisty curvy and body positive heroine. She is close friends with Lena and has the same sense of humor, so fans of this series will know what I am talking about. Ziggy is every bit the protective hero you expect him to be. I loved that while this was a novella it doesn't feel like a rushed story. You get to spend a good amount of time with the characters as their relationship and attraction develops. Also, because Kylie Scott obviously loves her readers you get to peek in on how your favorite rock stars and their loves are doing and I promise you won't be disappointed. I hope we get more from this series in the future, I feel like there are definitely more tales to tell.
